Who’s on the map?
In this beta version of the NY Legal Tech Map, we’ve included the following types of entities:
Technology Vendor
An organization that develops legal tech software, or provides services in support of that software, for use by law firms, in-house legal departments, law schools, or courts or other government agencies
Alternative Legal Services/NewLaw Company
Not-a-law-firms (thanks, Zach Abramowitz!) providing legal services to consumers (or other providers of legal services) outside of the service-delivery model of the traditional law firm
Educational Institution/Initiative
A law school or other educational institution with a dedicated innovation/legal tech initiative, legal tech incubator/accelerator, or student legal tech/innovation association
Law Firm
A law firm with a demonstrable commitment to technology and innovation, including those with branded legal tech/innovation initiatives, meaningful innovation/legal tech roles or dedicated counsel, or legal tech incubators/accelerators
In-House Legal Department
An in-house or government agency legal department with a demonstrable commitment to technology and innovation, including those with significant legal ops functions or counsel responsible for meaningful innovation/legal tech initiatives
Legal Tech/Innovation Media
An individual or organization producing traditional media, blogs, or podcasts that are principally devoted to legal tech or legal innovation
Legal Innovation/Design Consultancy
An organization that provides law firms, in-house legal departments, law schools, or courts or other government agencies with design or consulting services related to legal tech software or legal innovation
Investor
An individual or organization that has made investments in the legal technology/innovation space
